Photo Exhibition „The Search for Traces“ Finissage and guided tour with Christian Herrmann

Berlin
Hobrechtstraße 66 Berlin, 12047

Description

From the Baltic to the Black Sea, a region extends through Eastern and Central Europe that was home to the highest number of Jews in the world–until their extermination by Nazi Germany and its helpers. Photographer Christian Herrmann takes us to Jewish heritage sites in Galicia, Bukovina, Volhynia, and Bessarabia, today belonging to Ukraine, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, and Romania. Overgrown cemeteries, ruins of synagogues and–sometimes marked, sometimes unmarked–mass graves bear witness to Jewish life. Christian Herrmann will guide through the exhibition and will tell the stories behind the photos.

Christian Herrmann re-visits the Jewish heritage to document what is left. His analog and digital works are part of the long-term project „Vanished World“ a continuously growing online archive, and travel log. Herrmann lives in Cologne and works for a non-profit organization in Bonn.
