Although the term existential psychotherapy may sounds confusing, in practice it’s pretty straightforward. It means working psychotherapeutically in the ‘here and now’ with whatever issues or ideas arise during the sessions- whether they are broad challenges around human existence or more specific concerns about your life and the everyday intricacies within it.

I work on a very client-led dynamic and believe that you are your own best expert – I am simply there to help you explore your relationship to your life and the people in it. It is a creative and collaborative process which I believe can be extremely fruitful and rewarding.

I believe that through engaging with a therapeutic process it becomes possible to get to know ourselves better and in that way, perhaps engage in the world in a more honest and authentic way. It can also increase how we manage stress and cope with our difficulties better.By recognising different aspects of ourselves we, also learn to acknowledge and accept what we can and can’t change.

Experience

  • Private Practice I work privately as a psychotherapist with individuals dealing a wide range of issues including anxiety, relationship, identity problems and depression. I also specialise in family support, working with issues around disability and bereavement.

  • Family Psychotherapist Ambitious about Autism National Centre for Autism Education As part of a national research project into family resilience it was highlighted that families with children on the autistic spectrum are particularly at risk of breakdown because of the extra stressors and demands on the family unit. In response to this I ran a project to raise funds for a parent support service for parents of children with serve and complex autism. Once established, this position included designing and overseeing the service, as well as running individual and couples psychotherapy, parent support groups and sibling support groups. I was responsible for all monitoring and evaluation and the training and support of those working and volunteering within the service. The project has recently been granted a further extension of funds due to successful outcomes.
