The foundation of my practice is the person-centred approach which simply means that the core of my job is to provide the best possible conditions to allow you to explore, grow and develop your own unique resolution to the challenges you are faced with.

I offer a safe supportive space and work alongside you to empower you to build understanding of what is going on in the here and now and to develop skills to use in the future.    As you increase your understanding of yourself this in turn enables you to move through what is happening today and focus on how you want to live in the future.

In short, my experience is that for many people the process of counselling is transformative.

I recognise that everyone is different, and there is no “one size fits all” and so I offer a range of different tools that can be employed to support you immediately, and to use in the future.

Mindfulness is a powerful tool for building self-knowledge and helping to manage a range of challenges, and one which many of my clients have found to be hugely helpful and continue to value and use long after therapy has finished.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) offers a wide range of skills and techniques that are effective in approaching specific difficulties and situations, and also offers a greater degree of structure in the therapy room and outside, which is certainly the pragmatic preference for some.

Hypnotherapy provides a profound, effective and evidence based set of techniques that I use with clients to work together on a range of issues, and is especially useful for anxiety and improving performance.  In common with the rest of my approach hypnosis is always about empowering you and you remain in control at all times – it is a collaborative and often pleasantly liberating experience.

I have always been fascinated with stories – how they shape us, the ways we tell them, how they are sometimes so much part of the fabric of being human we don’t even notice that we are telling, or perhaps living, a story.  But most of all I love the way that as humans we can change their story once we know it is there.   This fascination has subtly shaped my journey in life – I studied English Literature at university, I have parallel career in the print industry and have worked as a Stage Manager, giving stories form.  As a counsellor I love to hear my clients’ stories and explore with them how they shape their lives and to learn with my clients what they want their story to be in the future.

In my current working life, I divide my time between my counselling practice, where I work with clients in Dagenham and South Woodford, as well as at Stillpoint Spaces, and my role as Process Manager in a large printer in East London.  My role there is to develop and maintain the management systems that enable my colleagues to produce beautiful printed products whilst respecting the environment and supporting our community.  My work in this world has given me rich experience of managing people and a practical understanding of the challenges many of us face in working life.

My style has always been to work collaboratively to solve problems, and that applies equally in all parts of my working life.  In the counselling room, I feel deeply privileged to be allowed to share in my clients’ experiences, and to have the opportunity to work as a team to create positive change.
