I have several years of experience working in Amsterdam since 2007 with one to one therapy, based on Psychosomatic Psychotherapy and Jungian Psychoanalisys. Therapy helps you in answering questions like: who am I? where am I going? I am continuously improving my knowledge in the relationship between art and psychology: psychosomatic therapy, music and movement therapy, vocal improvisation and psychodrama are some of the studies I am inspired by, together with brain music studies, receptive music listening, the psychology of performance. Key words are: listening, soul, heart, resilience, individuation, unity, equality, art, body, brain, space, love, acceptance, personal development, safety, unconscious, past, present, presence, time, relationships, human rights, activism, balance, essence. In therapy I support individuals, especially artists and scientists from different disciplines , providing inspiration in their personal development, and/or artistic crisis, understanding the delicate psychological dynamics of their work. I collaborate as a Psychotherapist with art schools and Universities in Amsterdam supporting students during the master program and the end of year project when personal issues block their artistic develoment. I believe that an integrative approach of physical symptoms and psychological well being is essential to a healthy and happy life. In the journey of life, illnesses and blocks should be observed from the perspective of communication of the body and the mind to the world. "If you listen to the information of the symptoms and act upon them you can understand better your needs and change the lifestyle to live in depth and in the world who you really are".

About Valeria

Originally from Milan, Italy, I have been living as an expat myself for several years , living in Turin, Barcelona, Porto Venere (in a Boat), Vienna, London, Berlin and since 2004 in Amsterdam.

Education

Graduated with a Master in Clinical Psychology at the University of Turin in 1998. In Milan in 2007, I specialized in Psychosomatic Psychotherapy at the Riza Institute following the teachings of the well known Italian Psychiatrist Raffaele Morelli. I gained the diploma of primary school teacher recognised by the Italian government to teach in public schools. I practice Movemevent Medicine Dance and 5 Rythms dance since 2012, and have been a painter for several years and I am using the arts in therapy as well. My supervisor since 2004 works and lives in the Netherlands.

Experience

Since 2007 I have been collaborating with the Expat Medical Center in the heart of Amsterdam as a Psychologist with a team of multilingual doctors, psychologists, and physiotherapists for international patients, communicating in Italian, English and Spanish. With them the patient is followed on a medical level and with their referral I start a journey of Psychosomatic Psychotherapy.

I consider myself an activist because through my work I can help guide the client towards an understanding and, as a consequence, social change. I started on March 2014 a research together with musicians integrating music with therapy. The research combines the psychotherapeutic fields with the music improvisation in exploring the potentials of music and movement during the journey of psychosomatic psychotherapy.

In February 2017 I completed a training in Psychoacoustics.

In Italy I have practiced at the St. Anna Hospital in Como at the Reanimation Department supporting families and learning trainings for nurses. I have been part of the research team in the “Vienna city administration - family research department” as an independent researcher with Dr. Stephanie Friedlmayer comparing Vienna and Milan methodologies to support children in difficult families.

I have been trained at Bocconi University - Milan - in recruiting and employed in Human Resources as a Recuiter for seven years. I also worked in prison as a creative writing teacher, and employed by a family to support a child with behavioural and clinical issues such as autism.

As well as being an artist, I have also published as a visual art critic for musea such as the Stedelijk, FOAM, Stadarchief, Huise Marseille.

I am the author of the artistic research ‘The Music of the Universe’ a developing project exploring psychoanalysis applied to art.
